It has come to our attention that you are currently engaged in an administrative law hearing against the MAXXAM Corporation, Charles Hurwitz and others regarding the $1.6 billion collapse and taxpayer bailout of United Savings Association of Texas. As a taxpayer and citizen, I wish to thank your agency for vigorously attempting to reclaim our money.
We want to urge you not to settle with MAXXAM and Hurwitz for pennies on the dollar in an out-of-court settlement. We want you to go after the full $1.6 billion that we bailed the S&L out for, plus any additional penalties and fines you can levy. If you conclude it is warranted, we would like you to pursue filing criminal charges against Mr. Hurwitz and any relevant associates. If everything you claim is true in your proceedings against him, then it would seem natural that you would recommend to the U.S. Justice Department that he be investigated.
Please do not let Mr. Hurwitz and MAXXAM
off the hook. To do so would make a mockery of our democracy, the banking
and court systems, and the American working family. Send the right message
to those who would repeated violate the law. Please stand up for the American
worker and taxpayer. Thank you.
